Pamela & Alex

My husband Alex & I started fostering in December 2008 after attending a Christmas party at the GAP Seymour kennels, & I believe it to be one of the best decisions of our lives.

Up to date we have fostered 75 dogs of which the last 41 have been classified as Medical Fosters…..that is suitable for adoption once they had recovered sufficiently from surgery or a medical condition.  Occasionally we have cared for dogs who have been prescribed medication to help with anxiety & observe their reaction to treatment & hopefully help them on their way to life as a pet.

During our time with GAP we have also adopted 5 hounds & in particular Dylan & Bookie became great mentors to the fosters.

Dylan helped us care for many dogs over the 11yrs he lived with us & Bookie came to live with us much later in her life.  A gorgeous 11yr old black tripod who’d had an hind leg amputated due to Osteosarcoma.  She was just brilliant with very nervous, anxious dogs & would snuggle up to them of a night time.

Unfortunately we lost both of them at 13yrs of age, within 3 months of each other in 2023.

Out of all the dogs we cared for a very special young man called Dexter is “the one” that stands out & luckily he went to a loving home 4yrs ago, & his adoptive mother still keeps in contact with us most months with phone calls & photos.  Dexter required aftercare from Laryngeal Tie Back Surgery & knowing of the complications that could arise post surgery I can attest to feeling quite anxious how we would cope at home with him. Thankfully he was a super easy patient & went onto be adopted during the Covid lockdown.

Everyone of our foster dogs have left their mark on us in some way & it has been a privilege to be part of this program for so many years.

A lot of people ask “how can you give these dogs back when the time comes for their return to GAP. “  Well, some are easier than others to return, but I have a mantra that I say to the dog during its stay with us, and that is…… “you will make a beautiful pet for your new owner”.  Since being with the program we have developed a real passion for this breed of dogs and personally get a lot out of helping them in their transition from racing dog to pet.

If you’re thinking of becoming a foster carer I can totally recommend it, and even if you foster 1 dog & then find it’s not for you, that will be one greyhound you’ve helped on its journey to pet life……. on the other hand it can become quite addictive.

Love Pamela & Alex

Duffman

2 years old

Oh yeah! It's the man himself - Duffman! This playful, funny, bouncy boy is very much still a puppy and can be very enthusiastic about life. He will need a family that will understand he needs to burn some of that puppy energy and include him in family play time (but also teach him how to play nicely) and adventures. Duffman can also be super sweet, affectionate and loves a good pat and scratch. We think he may suit living with older teens just due to his sheer enthusiasm and blissful unawareness of his size when it comes to playing around. He may also suit another dog in the home as long as they are not old or frail. A backyard is a must for this spritely young man!

Mustang

7 years old

She may have a wild and adventurous name but this little girl is a bit of a softy. She can be a little shy with new people and environments but with time we know she will grow and flourish into something you would see running free on the plains of the Cimarron with the wind in her hair! She has requested a quieter home with someone who will let her come out of her shell at her pace. We think she may also suit living with another calm, respectful male dog for companionship and show her that the world isn't as scary as she thinks it is. This sweet girl has a lot of love to give and waiting for someone to give her a chance!

If you're looking for your new Buddy, then we've got your guy! Buddy is a nice quiet, sweet, and personable boy who loves a cuddle once he warms up to you. He does have a little timidness when it comes to smaller dogs and while he is fine living with full time workers, he would also be ok to live with a quieter, more placid poochy sibling of any size. He's looking for a child free home.

Soba

Loving this girl is something no one needs to noodle-over! Beautiful Soba is a super sweet energetic girl with a heart of gold. With her striking good looks and affectionate nature, Soba would potentially suit a home with another medium or large canine friend, but her playful ways mean she would not suit a home with a small dog or a cat. She may do well in a home with children 5+ to play with.

Bertha

Dont worry - Bertha does have two ears! She just has selective hearing like most Greyhounds we know. Bertha may be 8yrs old but she is still a puppy at heart. She loves to do zoomies, play and actively watches all the things happening at GAP - some would say she is a bit of a sticky-beak but we think she just wants to make sure she gets her share of attention for the day. Bertha is such a sweet, gentle and affectionate lady and she will shower her new family in love and have them laughing at her silly antics all day. We think she may suit living with another male dog of any size and children 5+.

Miss Ravioli is not only beautiful, she is sweet, kind and affectionate. She can be a little reserved at first but soon warms up and leans in for a cuddle. We think she may suit living with children10 and over and maybe even another medium or larger male canine for company. We also think she would be best off in a home that has a yard as she is still only young and can take her time to adjust to new environments.
