Ultimate Greyhound Survival Guide

So, you’ve adopted (or are thinking of adopting) a greyhound. Congratulations! Here’s what you really need to know for survival in your new greyhound-controlled household.

Rule #1: The Couch is Theirs Now.

Don’t fight it. Just accept that your greyhound will claim the best seat in the house. Bonus points if they let you sit on their couch too.

Rule #2: Your Food is Their Food (In Their Mind).

Greyhounds are experts in the ancient art of the “long-nose sneak.” Watch out for counter surfing—it only takes a second for a snack to disappear!

Rule #3: Personal Space? Never Heard of It.

Greyhounds will follow you everywhere. Bathroom trips? Not solo anymore. Going to bed? Expect a cold nose on your pillow at some point.

Rule #4: Walks May Include Sudden Stops.

If your greyhound freezes mid-walk, they are not broken. They are simply processing life. Give them a moment. Maybe offer a treat. Then try again.

Rule #5: Fetch is a Human Sport.

Throw a ball, and your greyhound will watch it go. Maybe once, for fun. Then they’ll expect you to fetch it. Adjust expectations accordingly.

Bonus Rule: They Will Steal Your Heart.

You might think you’re adopting a greyhound, but the truth is—they’re adopting you. Get ready for the most loving, quirky, and couch-hogging companion you’ve ever had!

Oh yeah! It's the man himself - Duffman! This playful, funny, bouncy boy is very much still a puppy and can be very enthusiastic about life. He will need a family that will understand he needs to burn some of that puppy energy and include him in family play time (but also teach him how to play nicely) and adventures. Duffman can also be super sweet, affectionate and loves a good pat and scratch. We think he may suit living with older teens just due to his sheer enthusiasm and blissful unawareness of his size when it comes to playing around. He may also suit another dog in the home as long as they are not old or frail. A backyard is a must for this spritely young man!

She may have a wild and adventurous name but this little girl is a bit of a softy. She can be a little shy with new people and environments but with time we know she will grow and flourish into something you would see running free on the plains of the Cimarron with the wind in her hair! She has requested a quieter home with someone who will let her come out of her shell at her pace. We think she may also suit living with another calm, respectful male dog for companionship and show her that the world isn't as scary as she thinks it is. This sweet girl has a lot of love to give and waiting for someone to give her a chance!

She loves to do zoomies, play and actively watches all the things happening at GAP - some would say she is a bit of a sticky-beak but we think she just wants to make sure she gets her share of attention for the day. Bertha is such a sweet, gentle and affectionate lady and she will shower her new family in love and have them laughing at her silly antics all day. We think she may suit living with another male dog of any size and children 5+.

We also think she would be best off in a home that has a yard as she is still only young and can take her time to adjust to new environments.
